• “Oh wow. Hidden gem of a place. 1000 shillings for foreigners and 400 for residents. Maybe a 20 minute walk to the picnic/viewing area with shaded huts to sit and watch. At first it was about 5 oryx antelopes that wandered out. Then the two guides got the herd of giraffes to appear. They were all very tame and comfortable eating around the viewing area. • “We visited twice in mid May once late afternoon and once early morning and had some of the best bird watching we have experienced in all of Kenya. The sanctuary is located 4 Km from the Bamburi cement works main entrance and comprises of 3 distinct habitats. Open Savannah, Woodland and wetlands which all attract different spices of bird. The sanctuary also contains an number of Giraffes, eland and water buck which are used to graze the grass and trees. We were accompanied on our 3 hour birdwatching walks my Michael one of the sanctuary’s bird guides who provided us with some excellent sightings including white faced whistling ducks, Madagascan Pond Heron and a slender tail night jar along with 4 spices of kingfisher and black crake.
