- Arusha-Tanzania
The Serengeti. Just the name conjures up images of safari adventures and hints at mystery, excitement, and a world of unimaginable wildlife.
The Ngorongoro Crater. Picture a setting cut off from the rest of Africa – a volcanic crater, but filled in with forests, plains, and marshes, home to every sort of species, in great numbers, from lions to flamingoes.
Olduvai Gorge. A dramatic rip in the fabric of Africa’s landscape, where the Earth reveals ancient secrets of humanity’s very beginnings.
Our special four-day Tanzania safari will not just bring you up close to our magnificent animals but take you inside their stomping grounds where you’ll see, hear, and be with the wildlife.
And then, when you’ve been dazzled by our parks, landscapes, people, and animals, we’ll fly you back to Arusha to complete the great circle of your adventure.
What’s Cool About Serengeti and Ngorongoro?
Our journey begins at the fertile, forested underworld of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The superlatives attributed to this magical realm – largest intact volcanic crater in the world, greatest density of lions in Africa, over 25,000 animals – still doesn’t paint a complete picture of what you’re about to experience.
Cut off from the rest of Africa, the woods, plains, and marshes of Ngorongoro, are home to big cats, buffalo, elephants, endangered black rhinos, hippos, and all kinds of bird life, including pink flamingoes.
On the way to the great Serengeti, we’ll stop at Olduvai Gorge, another singular geological wonder. This rich anthropological site has offered up thousands of fossilized artifacts of early humankind’s beginnings, going back several million years.
The Serengeti, Tanzania’s largest park, impresses not only with its over 3,000 lions but every sort of wildlife, including more than 500 bird species. But perhaps Serengeti’s most impressive display is the millions of wildebeests that begin life here.
Depending on what season you visit, you’ll be witness to either uncountable wildebeests calving on the great plains or, toward summer, the formation of the world’s largest movement of animal life – the Great Migration.
Here, before you, thousands and then millions of zebra, gazelle, and wildebeests create an endless train of herding wildlife, moving over the Serengeti toward the Masai Mara, in search of water and taller grasses.
This is nature’s design for survival expressed as one immense spectacle. And it is unforgettable.

Day 1
Arusha – Ngorongoro
3 ½ Hour Drive
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
7:30 am: Your Africa Kenya Safaris driver/guide will pick you up from the location of your choosing. Hop into your 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and we’ll head out passing through Maasai regions, on our way to the Ngorongoro.
We’ll arrive at the crater’s rim and take in the colorful expanse of this wonder of the world. Hang on as we descend the crater wall in our safari Jeep, landing in a colorful ecosystem that supports a never-ending variety of wildlife – lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, elephant and so much more.
At Lake Magadi, we can pause for lunch as we take in hippos, cranes, ostriches, and flamingoes. A day here in the depths of Ngorongoro is like being immersed in a colorful canvas of wildlife.
Then, toward late afternoon we’ll head back up the crater wall to be met by one of Africa’s most dazzling sunsets.
Our first safari night will be at our Ngorongoro lodge or tented camp.
Day 2
Ngorongoro – Serengeti National Park
3 Hour Drive
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
A double treat – we’ll get up before the sun and head back to the crater’s rim for a perfect Ngorongoro sunrise!
The next stop on our route to the Serengeti will be Olduvai Gorge. Here we’ll see and learn about the vast numbers of fossilized artifacts discovered in the earth’s fissures that open before us. It’s a world-famous accounting of humankind’s culture, use of tools, and display of its development.
Now it’s time to enter the immense reaches of Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s largest. The vast treeless expanse holds multitudes of wildlife – wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, plus leopards, lions, and cheetahs.
This evening, we’ll kick back and relax at our Serengeti lodge or tented camp with much to recount from our busy day.
Day 3
Full Day at Serengeti
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner
At Africa Kenya Safaris we always offer unlimited game drives when possible. This is one of those days! We’ll spend our time exploring this “Seven Natural Wonders of Africa” site with its startling numbers of game and brilliant bird species.
Besides all the animal life for which the park is famous, your guide will also be tracking for and showing you the park’s many smaller species like monkey, baboon, honey badger, and even wild African dogs.
And not all the wildlife here is strictly land-based, we’ll explore the reserve’s marshes and rivers for hippos and even crocodiles. There’s no limit to the animal sightings at Serengeti.
Our final safari night will be at our Serengeti accommodation.
Day 4
Serengeti – Arusha
2 Hour Flight
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
It’s our final day on safari so let’s rise with the sun and make the most of this beautiful world!
There’s no time like early morning to fully appreciate the big game, especially the big cats stepping into the cool, new day. We’ll do an early game drive to see who we can spot and then enjoy a delicious breakfast.
The airstrip is nearby and we’ll get you comfortably seated on your safari flight back to Arusha. You should land at about 12:45 pm. One of our drivers will greet you and bring you back to your hotel, residence, airport, or another place of your choice.
You’ve seen and experienced the great Serengeti, descended into the wonders of Ngorongoro, and viewed the treasures of Olduvai Gorge. And, even got to see Africa’s fields and formations from the air! We hope you enjoyed your time on safari with us as we have with you. From all of us at Africa Kenya Safaris a big Asante – thank you!
