Starting in the capital city of Nairobi we’ll head first to nearby Lake Nakuru National Park, a pristine slice of acacia woods, waterfalls, and the pretty lake adorned with all kinds of waterfowl. There’s a rhino sanctuary here so you’ll have opportunities to see these endangered and shy creatures.
Then we’re off to Kenya’s most popular park, Masai Mara, home to the great migration of wildebeests and lots of big cats. This is a wonderfully dense ecosystem, home to over 95 different mammal species.
While here you may want to visit a local Maasai village, get to meet these indigenous people, and learn about their pastoral lifestyle. Plus, we offer an optional hot air balloon safari over the park, rising with the sun to see the Mara come alive.
Tanzania!
We’ll next cross the border into Tanzania and the great Serengeti Park. This is where hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebra breed, eventually crossing into the neighboring Masai Mara on their Great Migration.
Over these plains, you’ll go on game drives to discover some of the over 3,000 lions inhabiting the Serengeti. Of course, you can’t miss the wildebeests, zebra, and gazelle, along with cheetahs, giraffes, warthog, and hippos.
Ngorongoro – Tarangire
Don’t worry, you’ll learn to pronounce it – Ngorongoro – this unforgettable sweep of landscape is the world’s largest intact volcanic crater. Imagine an ecosystem cut off from the rest of Africa but filled with every imaginable animal, from lions to flamingoes.
You’ll travel down the steep crater walls in your 4 x 4 to land in a blue/green world of big cats, buffalo, elephants, and hippos.
Next, we move on to Tarangire Park where elephants rule. It’s also home to a small migration of over 250,000 animals. This compact but beautiful park is our final stop in Tanzania.
Return To Kenya
Now it’s time to turn back to Kenya and head to one of its signature game reserves, Amboseli National Park. You can’t miss Africa’s tallest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro framing the park’s southern border.
Against this dramatic background, prepare to witness Amboseli’s famous herds of elephants – so many you are guaranteed sightings. The park is also home to the rest of Africa’s “Big Five” – lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo.
